From rags to riches, Chris Janson’s story is one for the books!
Chris Janson graduated high school, packed his car, and make the four-hour trek to Nashville. In Perryville, Missouri, people typically weren’t headed to college, they were headed to work and 18-year-old, Chris had his sights set on making music his job.
Upon arrival, Chris pulled his car into the alley between the Ryman Auditorium and Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. He intended to park there, and beat feet on lower Broadway in search of gigs. This hidden nook of Nashville’s downtown area became very familiar to Chris. For the first 2 ½ months, Chris worked, played, ate, and slept there. Literally, sleeping in his car.
In a recent interview with Cody Alan, the “Good Vibes” singer shared that his coveted 1999 green Monte Carlo “finally kicked the bucket.”
“400 thousand miles, the engine caught on fire, my dad was driving it,” said Chris. “I bought the car when I was a kid and sold a hotrod that I built with my dad to buy it.”
Chris shared a lot of memories in that car and continues to count his blessings for each pivotal moment.Even when sleeping in his car, which is less than ideal, Chris felt blessed. “I didn’t feel poor or nothing, I felt like I was just making it. I’m playing off of tips, and I am really making it. I just felt like ‘Oh My Gosh, not a lot of people get to do this!’”
