Over 1 Million Absentee Ballots Have Been Requested In North Carolina

This year's presidential election is quickly approaching and many people are considering their voting options. With the pandemic continuing to cause health concerns, some voters are choosing to cast their ballots by mail. In North Carolina, more than 1 million absentee ballots have been requested for the November 3 election.

As of September 23, the State Board of Elections has logged 1,002,874 absentee ballot requests. North Carolina began mailing out the requested ballots at the beginning of the month, making it the first state to do so, according to WECT. The counties with the most requests are Wake (149,689), Mecklenburg (141,237), Guilford (55,543), and Durham (55,520).

The milestone number comes after a decision on Tuesday that would allow for absentee ballots returned with deficient information to be fixed without having the voter complete a new blank ballot, CBS 17 reports.

"Voters need certainty," said Damon Circosta, chairman of the State Board of Elections. "So, I think it was in the best interest of voters of North Carolina that we were able to provide that certainty. now and make some commonsense changes, so that everybody in North Carolina can vote."

The State Board of Elections has a "Frequently Asked Questions" page on its website, so anyone wanting to learn more about absentee by-mail ballots can learn more here.
