North Carolina To Receive Over 80K Doses Of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

North Carolina is set to received more than 80,000 doses of the newly-approved Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. According to ABC 11, the shipments will arrive this week, starting on Wednesday (March 3).

Johnson & Johnson's single-dose vaccine received a unanimous recommendation by a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention panel and received an emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration over the weekend.

Alex Gorsky, the company's CEO, said they are currently shipping 4 million doses around the country and that "Americans should start receiving shots in arms" in the next 24 to 48 hours. The pace is part of the company's aim of delivering 100 million doses by the summer, WRAL reports.

"I really can't think of another time in our history when we've been able to ramp up at this kind of pace," Gorsky said on Monday (March 1) during an appearance on The TODAY Show.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen weighed in on how the newest vaccine option will impact the lives of North Carolinians.

"A third COVID-19 vaccine means North Carolina can get more people vaccinated sooner, which will save lives and slow the spread," said Dr. Cohen.
