Gabby Barrett shared a sneak peek of an unreleased, vulnerable ballad about her marriage.
Barrett, 26, met husband Cade Foehner, 29, when the pair competed on American Idol in 2018. They said “I do” the following year at ages 19 and 23, respectively. Now, Barrett and Foehner are parents to three young children. Daughter Baylah May was born in January 2021. Son Augustine Boone followed in October 2022, and daughter Ivy Josephine arrived in February 2024.
“I got married when I was 19,” Barrett said in a clip she shared on Instagram. “I never released this song. It’s called ‘Young.’”
The country star went on to sing that “Everyone says we’re too young/ Supposed to be single and dancing with strangers, waiting on tables/ Just starting out, having fun/ They say we should just take our time, slow it down/ But I didn’t mean to need you like the air that I’m breathing, baby/ You didn’t plan on me now/ And we don’t care they call us crazy/ Hey, maybe we are/ Yeah, we are/ ‘Cause crazy’s how we love/ It must be written in the stars/ So what if we are too young?”
“This wasn’t the ‘smart choice,’” Barrett wrote in her caption, tagging Foehner and adding a red heart emoji. “But 8 years later..”
Foehner wrote in the comments, “it’s the ride of a lifetime.”
Barrett’s rendition of “Young” arrived shortly after she teased other unreleased ballads. She explained that she “need(s) help picking what to release next,” before playing a sneak peek of “In On It.” She followed it with a clip of “Every Minute Of It.” Barrett’s next song to release will follow “Ain’t Supposed To Be,” a romantic ballad that she release in October 2025, and “The Easy Part,” a breakup single se released in August 2025 (and described as “a distant cousin” to her breakout cheating anthem, “I Hope”). Barrett confirmed on her Instagram story last month, “yes, new music is coming soon,” and teased, “possibly a bigger body of work toward the end of this year… album 3? 👀” Barrett’s third studio record would follow 2020’s Goldmine and 2024’s Chapter & Verse; however, the singer-songwriter has not shared any additional album updates as of publication time on Monday (April 6).
