NBA's Chris Paul Leads College Students On March To The Polls

An NBA star is using his platform to encourage young people to get out and vote. On Tuesday, Winston-Salem native and Oklahoma City Thunder's Chris Paul led students of a historically Black college in North Carolina in a march to the polls.

The event drew large crowds at Winston-Salem State University, thanks in part to Paul, with around 2,500 people participating in the "March to the Polls Part 2." According to ABC News, campus police blocked traffic to allow space for the march.

Paul, who attends classes at the college, said it was necessary to encourage students to vote "given the magnitude of the election and everything that is going on right now." This isn't his first foray into getting out the vote. In the past, he has talked about encouraging students, especially those at HBCUs, to make their voices heard.

"College students think about making inroads," said Je'Den Clark, WSSU's student government association president. "Voting is important. We are instructed since our freshman years to use our voices."

With less than one week until Election Day, North Carolina has already seen a record number of ballots cast during early voting. To locate your polling location or to find more resources about the election, visit the state website here.
