A lucky lottery player in North Carolina was "shaking" after learning she won big in a recant Powerball drawing.
Frances Pressley, of Southmont, purchased a $3 Quick Pick Power Play ticket for Monday (December 16) night's Powerball drawing from the Southmont Grocery on N.C. 8 in Lexington that matched the numbers of four white balls plus the red Powerball to score $50,000, which was then doubled to $100,000 thanks to the 2X multiplier, according to a release from the NC Education Lottery. When she saw how much she won, she went back to the store just to make sure she was seeing it correctly.
"The girl at the store told me, 'You did it,'" she said. "I was shaking as I walked back to my car."
After ensuring she did in fact score a $100,000 win, the Davidson County woman back went home to share the exciting news with her husband.
"I told him, 'We've got good news,'" she said. "We really needed it."
Pressley claimed her prize at lottery headquarters on Tuesday (December 17), taking home a total of $71,501 after all required state and federal tax withholdings. According to lottery officials, she plans to use her winnings to pay some bills and do work around her house. As for now, though, she is simply excited about her impressive win.
"I'm really tickled over it," she said.
