September 11th - Twenty Years Later

I can't believe it's been 20 years since the attacks on September 11, 2001. Our country, our world, has changed so much since then. Do you remember where you were on that fateful day?

I was in 8th grade english when the first plane hit. I remember an announcement coming over the intercom instructing teachers to be aware, but we had no idea what that meant. When we changed classes, I was headed to PE. The coaches ushered us into the gym, sat us in a circle, and turned the radio on. We started hearing everything that was happening. My heart sank. My mind raced. I was scared, confused, and very upset. I actually remember friends around me laughing and joking around, because they didn't even pay attention to what happened. As more and more of the events unfolded, and we heard it all happen, I knew our life would never be the same.

Although the events of that day will never leave my mind, I always remember the days after. Our country was UNITED. We stood in lines to donate blood, checked on neighbors constantly, flew American Flags EVERYWHERE, and shouted "USA, USA, USA" at any moment possible. Race, religion, politics - none of that mattered in the hours and days following the attacks.

I wish our country could get back to THAT. How united we were. We were AMERICA, and nothing could stop us. That's what this country needs today more than anything. Quit fighting about politics, race, religion...and just plain BE AMERICANS.

As you remember the events today, remember those who lost their lives. Remember those who gave it all. Remember those families that were torn apart. Remember all those affected by these cowardly acts. Tell your kids everything. Teach them, show them, and make sure they remember the events of 9/11/01.

I firmly believe we should ALL watch the events again and again. That's the only way we'll remember. Full video of the day is below.

God Bless America.
